Doug grew up in Taylorsville, a suburb of Salt Lake City, Utah, where he lived until he went to college, graduating from the University of Utah with a BFA in Musical Theater.

Doug now lives in Seattle, Washington. He has performed in many different theaters in Salt Lake and Seattle, including Seattle Repertory Theatre, Pioneer Theatre Company, Salt Lake Acting Company, Sundance, Eastside Musical Theater, Annex Theater, Alice B. Theater, Civic Light Opera, ArtsWest, Showtunes Theatre and Village Theatre. Doug works regularly in commercials, print, television and film. Doug has starred in several independent feature films recently, inluding Zombies of Mass Destruction, Punch, Speak Not and A Measure of Comfort. All four films are set to be released in 2009/2010.
